Welcome back! - Its 2012!

Yow! 12 freaking years since mi do mi last post! Oh my gosh that is absolutely poor. Anyway, mi dey back to the blog posting.

Why am I back?

Well here are a couple reasons/catalysts/inspirations :-
  1. I saw this white girl on a gospel station (Terri Savelle) - yea she cute an look like a likkle Barbie doll, more on that later - talking about writing down the visions that God places on your heart. The scripture reference is Habakkuk 2:2 .
  2. Then @ church the GIP series has encouraged us to journal to be more spiritually attuned.
  3. Den mi fren Kerry decide sey she's gonna hold me accountable for my journalling/writing.
  4. and Dennis Chung I realised still keeps his blog active. And here I am thinking blogging gawn outta style. His articles on solar powered energy within the jamaican context is really suppn to check out. Heard him on Dionne Jackson Miller's RJR program just after Hurricane Sandy passed talking about having light during the hurricane whilst eveyone else was in darkness. He also boasted that his solar panell system will pay off itself within 2 years. Cool. All of this he records in his blogs.
Yeah so is it dis! Back in the saddle. Welcome to all my faithful readers/subscribers (me), hope y'all be mentally nourished by my jottings.

But before I go just a side note, I mentioned earlier the cute little barbie doll I saw on TV her name is Terri Savelle-Foy daughter of Jerri Savelle, a televangelist. What struck me among other things was her seemingly soft unassuming persona. You would not typically expect a middle aged male like me to relate to a message delivered via this method. One got the feeling that if you blew to hard on her she'd break. But yet her simple words of encouragement and simple common sense on the advantages of writing certainly resonated with me. God really uses the simple things of this world eh. Wonder if Jamaica need some of this.

A lot has happened over the past 6 years - dunno if I'll be able to give a synopsis of what has happened since then but whether I do or don't, going forward I'll be resuming the original purpose of this blog ie to record my thoughts on things mainly that affects my nation Jamaica from a spiritual & political nature and how our lives are affected.

So ... se uunu soon. Later.

She get di ting deh! - dem outta luck now

Congratulations to our new Prime Minister elect Portia Lucrecia Simpson Miller! Soon to be Jamaica's first female head of state.

Ms Simpson beat her chief competitor
in the party's internal vote Dr Peter Phillips by over 200 votes. She received 1,775 votes, while the national security minister took 1,538 votes from a total of 3808 votes. Omar and Karl were a distant 3rd and 4th with 283 and 204 respectively.

Heh heh I suppose Karl never did return...at least not yet and KD!?...
Raaah Raaah Raaah Raaah! (for those of you who don't know the song see the chorus).

I can't say I'm disappointed nor am I just merely indifferent to the whole thing but rather pleased. Up to a fortnight before the elections I was privately rooting for Peter Phillips to win. Why? Well why not. There was nothing that separated the two in my book. What? because she's a woman I should favour her on that basis. Don't think so. One's aptitude is not and should not be based on gender in this context. Instead I look at track record.

Why would I vote for a politician who consistently has a voter turn out of 110% in her constituency and was a protege of Tony Spaulding. Spaulding one of the fathers of modern day garrison politics when he was the Minister of Housing during the 70's certainly taught her a thing or two of how to 'persuade' her constituents to vote for her. Now don't get me wrong I know Peter is no angel himself but at least he only wins by about 80%!

Furthermore I was thinking that if Peter won Bruce would get a chance since Portia is the only other politician more popular than him. I mean 17 years of the same thing! Mi a get tyad a it now. Work 10 years in this country and yu struggle fi buy a house (maybe), go a Canada an within 3 years man a build im house...tsk.

But what if Bruce win? All his administration would be busy doing is repairing the damage. Forced to make unpopular decisions den get vote out, PNP back in power then the cycle starts over again ...circa 70s and 80s.

My Wish
So what then is the solution? I want a national alliance between the JLP and the PNP. How else is this country to move forward?

Leading up to the few days before the election one heard from the Peter Phillips camp the typical arrogance associated with the ruling party. Just to name some -
  • "Tell Labourites to stay out of PNP business" - Peter Phillips
  • KD Knight's (Phillips camp) disparaging comments about her not having a Phd. Remember what he called her at Gordon House when she abstained from voting last year re the fire services.
  • Phillips while giving a speech at a womens gathering coming across as saying some jobs should be left for men.
This was what tipped me to the other side. I know that it wasn't anything new but as a friend of mine said recently, those who who are outside the party just want whoever would best serve the country to be the winner.

One gets the feeling that with Portia there would be a greater chance for National unity and greater cooperation between both parties. You nuh really get dat wid Peter. Di rasta inna im woulda 'bun' any ting fi do wid di 'Labourite dem'.

All the best Ms Prime Minister.

Another one bites the dust

Some time ago I highlighted the sudden 'drop out' of all the major dons across the nation. Well ... another one bites the dust.
Andrew 'Bunman' Hope

The 'only' sad thing (sorry to say that but a so mi feel) about all of this is that people were rioting in support of this bad man. Spanish town lock down.

My country.

FelTab's weekend Fast

At the beginning of each new year, Fellowship Tabernacle usually begins with a fast seeking God's face concerning our direction for the new year. This (January 6 - 8) year we had a weekend shut in. From Friday evening to Sunday morning members stayed at the church's premises praying and fasting.

I wasn't there but from all accounts it was a fruitful venture. The Sunday morning message however from Pastor Miller was very potent.

It began with a word stating (paraphrased) that the fast over weekend is not itself the end. It is the way or the process to an end. We ought not to fast for a reward ie a miraculuos act from God, but to acknowledge that his presence itself is the reward.

The Reverend Al Miller reminded the congregation of the scripture where God showed the people his works but to Moses he showed his ways - Psalms 103 v 7. We fast to be a people who will come into the anointing to set a nation free. Not merely for our own desires. The inclination to do things (even spiritual things) out of selfish motives is very tempting. To endure the process of obedience however is a mark of maturity. Babies expect to be fed immediately when they cry and in all likelihood they will be fed by the parents. But as they get older the pampering will ease. So it is in the spiritual. Many christians (20 yrs an above even) boast of 'anything I ask God for I get'. Baby christian? Not to say that God doesn't answer prayers, but you wonder if they have been obedient to the process which God would require of them as he would an older child.

We ought not also only fast when we have a problem. Again a sign of the fleshy selfish nature. It was ironic too that the word that came for this theme, came from a 'baby christian'. :-)

A nation is is out there dying. People need Jesus. But Jesus deh a heaven. So who gwey show im to dem?

The answer.

Bless.

One Don or Many Dons

When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers
- The Bible(NIV), Prov 28 v 2

Under the Seaga regime Jamaica was under the 'one don' governance. Under the PNP regime we were set free from the dictator. But now there is a vast proliferation of dons on every street corner and community.

The contrasting styles of both leaders manifests i
tself in the fruits we now see. Patterson though known to be architect of an expert PR machinery, is too silent at times. Turning what seems to be a blind eye to what tribal politics has done to the country.

People of God I know since mid 2005 have been waging war spiritually against this very spirit of donmanship.

Now we see whole eap a di don dem a drop out.

Bulbie

Chubby Dread

Zeeks is now in jail. (I suppose the government no longer has any use for him) and the Phangs are undergoing their own battles in Arnett.

I don't believe in obeah. But I believe in the power of God.

Prayer alone however will not solve our country's crime problem.
Launching missile and air strikes by prayer will result in temporary disruptions of the enemy's works, but the true occupation and claiming of territory can only be done by sending in ground troops (ie evangelism and a consant presence of the people of God). What if the elimination of these dons only results in more popping up all over the place to fill the void left?

Both political parties have both sown the seeds of political tribalism during the 70s and 80s. We are now reaping the fruits. Eliminating these weeds of destruction will take a long constant and concerted effort.

A truth commission as what they had in South Africa is probably what is needed.

The truth is that there are still many unresolved issues in our country's past that our politicians have yet to confront. Even presently there is still the thread that binds the MP of an area very closely with the 'area leader'.

George Phang and Omar Davies

Do we really expect crime to be solved in this environment?

By way, in my last post I said that at the end of the year the murder toll was around 1500. Its actually 1650.

Bless.
